BALE  TREKKING

7 DAYS AND 6 NIGHTS BY SURFACE

As you trek across the home of the Ethiopian wolf, mountain Nyala, giant mole rat and Bale monkey, you will explore all habitats both mammals and birds of the Bale Mountains National Park. You will experience stunning Afro alpine mountains and natural scenery while heading deep into the heart of the Sanetti plateau – a floating land. Besides you will spot various species of birds. It gives you opportunities for unsurpassed mountain walking, and scenic driving.

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL ADDIS ABABA  

This day you arrive at Bole international airport, welcomed by your guide, transfer to your Hotel after some rest you will have city Tour in Addis Ababa. Overnight stay Hotel

 DAY2- ADDIS ABABA – BALE (DINSHO, THE PARK HEAD QUARTER)

Drive from Addis to Bale national park(400kms to the South East of Addis Ababa) ) via Shashemene town and after noon you will arrive the park head quarter and immediately after check in you will spote Menilik’s Bush Buck and mount Niyala. Besides you will enjoy game drive. Overnight Stay hotel.

DAY 3- DINSHO – SODOTA CAMPING SITE (7-8hrs trekking 3500m asl 20kms)

Early morning start trekking South West of the head of quarter to the valley, enjoying the rewarding view of the plain and the best place for wolf watching and wollo valley.  Visit Finch Abera water fall. Overnight stay Camping.

DAY 4 – SODOTA – WASAMA CAMPING SITE (4000masl 22kms)

Early morning start trekking for 7-8 hours through Mararo valley enjoying the beautiful landscape with dramatic views, and visit of different species of birds and the Ethiopian Wolf for the second time. Overnight stay camping.

DAY 5 – WASAMA – GEBREGURACHA CAMP SITE (Over 4000masl 22kms 7-9hrs trekking)

Early morning start trekking up to Mountain Wasama. En-route different species of birds and animals will be spotted and  keep an eye for the giant mole rates which are easily seen. The Topography is also panoramic. Then arrive at Gebreguracha Lake means Black lake in Oromigna language where we will do camping there.

DAY 6 - GEBREGURACHA CAMP SITE – SENATE PLATEAU (Over 4100m asl 7kms )

Trek from the camp site to the Senate Plateau camping where we meet our vehicles after 3hrs trekking. Then drive to Tulu Dimtu(4377kms the 2nd highest mountain in Ethiopia. Then meet your car around and drive back to Goba for overnight stay. Stay overnight hotel.

DAY 7 – GOBA – ADDIS ABABA (427 kms)    

Am full day drive to Add Ababa via Arisi and en-route we can visit sodere hot spring.  Arrival, shopping and departure for home.

TREKKING TO THE SEMIEN MOUNTAINS

This is for 10D/9N trekking or 12D/11N Trekking to the Semein Mountain. From here it is possible to redesign 3 or 4 or longer days trekkingbased on your request.

DAY 1- ARRIVAL ADDIS ABABA

Am early morning up on arrival at Addis Ababa, you will be greeted with the traditional Ethiopian hospitality at the airport and transferred to the hotel.  Then after noon at 14hrs pick up from the hotel visit Entoto mountains with best view over the capital, the national Museum, The Ethnographic Museum, The holy Trinity Cathedral. Overnight stay hotel.

DAY 2- ADDIS ABABA - GONDAR ( 745kms)

Flight to Gonder, the former capital of Ethiopia, & sightseeing tour. After arrival and check in hotel in hotel visit the castle’s compound, or the royal enclosures with 6 castles and several other buildings. Debre Birhan Sellasie church with wonderful mural/wall paintings, King Fasiladas bath still used far Timket/ Peptizing celebration, Mentwab palace.  Overnight stay hotel.                                                          

DAY 3 - GONDAR- DEBARIK(100kms) - SANKABER CAMP SITE(3250M. asl)

Early morning drive to Debark 100kms from Gondar(takes 2-3hrs). After we obtain permit from the park head quarter in Debark and collect our obligatory armed scout, guide, organized mules for trekking, meet the muleteers and the trekking equipment are loaded on to their mules, drive to Buytras (Around Semien lodge). Then trekking will be started from Buytras which takes about 3-4hours to walk to Sankabar camp site. En route we will stop for picnic lunch on escarpment, admiring the wonderful views of the highest chain in Africa. During the walk there’s a good chance of seeing your first Gelada baboons which also called "the bleeding heart baboons". Overnight stay camping.

DAY 4 - SANKABER - GEECH (3600M.asl and 17kms far)

Trek from Sankabar to Geech for 6-8 hrs enjoying the beautiful landscaped. You descend in the Michwahtis valley and begin the climb up the other side, making a short diversion to see one of the most impressive sights in the Simien Mountains, where the Jinbar River and falls, plunges into the Geech Abyss. it is the largest water fall.  You will also spot the heard of endemic gelada baboons, Wattle ibis & white collar pigeon etc. This camp site has great views of the mountains and is characterized by giant lobelia plants. Overnight stay camping.

DAY 5 - GEECH -IMETGOGO (3925m asl & 10kms far) - GEECH

Trek from Geech to Imetgogo for about 7hrs. Imetgogo is the most Panoramic view of the Semien Mountains. It is one of the finest viewpoints of the gorge and mountain ranges in the area. We will have our picnic lunch and we continue to the last viewpoint, Quedadit. After some stay we walk back to Geech camp site. Overnight stay Camping.

It is also possible to finish the trekking here if you have no enough time  by trekking  back to the road near a village called Ambaras and meet the car for the drive back to Gondar.

DAY 6 - GEECH – CHENECK(3600masl)

Trek from Geech to Chenek which is bounded by a semicircular ring of cliffs and takes you along the edge of the escarpment. En-route you will appreciate the different afro-alpine plant species and visit different endemic animals including the rare animal Waliya Ibex and more Gelada Baboon. The Chenek campsite offers superb views across to the opposite escarpment and the prominent peak of Imetgogo. Overnight stay in Cheneck Camp site.

DAY 7 - CHENEK - AMBIKO (4200M asl)

This is 2nd highest peak next to Ras Dashen called foot of Ras dashen with a memorable walking and giving excellent views over the whole area. But it is a long way from 7-9hrs walking and hard day’s trekking with many ascents and descents. We will also enjoy many wild lives. Overnight stay Camping.

DAY 8 - AMBIKO - RASDASHEN (4620m. asl) - AMBIKO

This day is the most difficult day of the trips taking almost 9-10 hrs. Today’s climb to the highest point in Ethiopia, the summit of Ras Dejen/Dashen, requires a dawn start. You climb slowly and steadily through giant Lobelia forests, passing the tiny, perched village of Mizma and gaining an area of open pasture where there are herds of cattle and goats with their attendant herdsmen. Finally, after 5 hours of ascent, you reach steeper, rocky ground and a short scramble to the cairned summit. You will take an hour’s rest on top to enjoy the views that, in clear weather, extend to North of Ethiopia. Finally a 3- hour descent takes you back to the campsite in Ambiquo. Overnight stay Camping.

DAY 9 -  AMBIKO - CHENEK - GONDAR.

Walk back to Chenek to catch your car and drive back to Gondar. Overnight stay hotel.

DAY 10 - GONDAR - ADDIS ABABA

Flight back to Addis Ababa, take rest in day use room, shopping then flight back home.  

 

OR SECOND OPTION FOR LONG TREKKING

 

DAY 9 - AMBIKO - SONA(3200mt asl, 12kms) - MAKAREBIA   ( 2200mt and 11kms).

 Trekking to Sona first with a very good landscape and proceed to Makarebia camp site. Overnight stay Camping

DAY 10 - MEKAREBIA - MULIT(2180m asl)

This takes walking of 7-8hrs and Overnight stay Camping.

DAY 11 - MULIT – ADIRKAY (1800m asl) - GONDAR (180kms drive)

Trek to Adarkay to meet your vehicles and drive to Gonder.  Here you say goodbye to your trek crew, have a look around the bazaar/traditional market there and then board the car for the drive back to Gondar Overnight stay hotel.

DAY 12 - GONDAR - ADDIS ABABA

Early morning flight to Addis Ababa. After noon shopping and visit Markato biggest open air market in Africa. Fare well dinner party in a traditional restaurant with various tribal dances and transfer out for departure home.
